Born and raised in Toronto, Canada to a second generation Italian family Marco Bertuzzo spent much of his youth immersed in allegorical art of Europe the Italian Renaissance. These images fostered a love of fine art in Marco and this passion is what drove him to complete a bachelors of Fine Art at OCAD University. Now, having just completed a Masters of Fine Art course at Central Saint Martins in London, England, Bertuzzo's passion has come full-circle. Bertuzzo creates large highly colourful and seemingly allegorical paintings. These pieces which blur the line between erotic and grotesque are directly inspired by pieces that he saw in his childhood and in his European schooling. Beautiful and tacky, possible and impossible. Each piece invites the viewer to decipher it’s meaning, and through this process becomes filled with the meaning that each viewer imbues it with.
