Rome × Paris
May 13 - June 12, 2015
Renowned Canadian realist painter and photographer Barry Oretsky captures a wide range of imagery exploring the juxtaposition of modern life and antiquity in these two European capital cities. The fusion of classical and contemporary subject matter is significant to the artist as it allows him to draw from, and reflect upon, current and past experiences.
My lifelong love affair with both Rome and Paris has been a primary influence on my journey as an artist. As I reflect upon my journey I find myself trying to distinguish between myself as a painter and myself as a photographer. I believe that there is very little distinction. I have always been an image maker and this activity has captured my attention, commitment and passion for over fifty years.
This exhibit of images from Rome and Paris allows for a conversation which juxtaposes the past and present. These two capital centres of our Western ethos have captured my attention for almost five decades and have been central to my body of work.
